Storage Unit Size for a 3-Bedroom

Most 3-bedroom houses need a 10x25 storage unit, a lightly furnished 3-bedroom can fit in a 10x15, and a full 3-bedroom house with a garage, appliances, and yard gear usually needs a 14x20 or 15x20. At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, a 10x15 rents for $75 a month, a 10x25 for $125, a 14x20 for $145, and a 15x20 for $155 (as listed in November 2026).

Picking the right storage unit size for a 3 bedroom house is mostly about how much stuff you own, not the bedroom count. This guide gives you a quick size chart, a room-by-room checklist, the real door and ceiling sizes at our Parowan facility, and a packing plan that keeps a big unit usable. If you want to compare every size we rent first, start with our full storage unit size guide.

What Size Storage Unit Do I Need for a 3-Bedroom House?

For most families, a 10x25 is the right storage unit size for a 3-bedroom house. It has 250 square feet of floor space and a 9-foot ceiling, which covers three bedroom sets, a living room, a dining set, major appliances, and a good stack of boxes.

Use this chart as a starting point. Rates are from our Rent page on November 1, 2026.

Your 3-bedroom Suggested size Floor space Monthly rate at AAPS
Light: kids' rooms with twin beds, no appliances, few boxes 10x15 150 sq ft $75
Average house: three bedroom sets, sofa, dining set, washer and dryer, 50 to 75 boxes 10x25 250 sq ft $125
Full house: everything above plus a fridge, sectional, garage and yard items 14x20 280 sq ft $145
Full house with bulky pieces: piano, large sectional, workshop tools 15x20 300 sq ft $155
3-bedroom plus a basement, big garage, or lots of extras 20x26 520 sq ft $210

These are estimates. A king bed and a twin bed take very different amounts of room, and so do a loveseat and a sectional. Box counts are general rules of thumb, not measured figures.

Can a 3-Bedroom Fit in a 10x15 Storage Unit?

Only if it is lightly furnished. Our Rent page describes the 10x15 as fitting "the contents of three full bedrooms and larger items such as a piano, couches, tables, or large-screen TVs," but that means bedroom furniture, not a whole house with a kitchen, garage, and appliances.

A 10x15 is a good fit for a 3-bedroom when:

  • Two of the bedrooms are kids' rooms with twin beds and small dressers.
  • You are selling or leaving the washer, dryer, and refrigerator.
  • You are storing during a remodel and only clearing out furniture, not the whole house.
  • You will pack tightly and stack boxes close to the 9-foot ceiling.

We have two 10x15 versions in Parowan, both $75 a month: one with a 9-foot ceiling and a door 8.7 feet wide and 8 feet tall, and one with a 10-foot ceiling and a door 7 feet 10 inches wide and 8 feet tall. See what fits in a 10x15 storage unit for a detailed packing list.

Why Is a 10x25 the Most Common Choice for a 3-Bedroom?

A 10x25 gives you 250 square feet, two-thirds more floor space than a 10x15, for $50 more a month. Our Rent page says it fits "the contents of a multi-bedroom house, including several oversized items like a couch, a refrigerator, a washer/dryer and a dining room set."

The long, narrow shape works well for a whole house. You can line the back with appliances and mattresses, run furniture down both sides, and keep a walkway down the middle to reach boxes later. The door at AA Personal Storage is 8 feet wide and 7 feet 10 inches tall, so a queen mattress, a fridge, or a sofa on end goes straight in.

The 10x25 is popular, and it showed "Only 1 left!" on our Rent page in late October 2026, so check availability before moving day. For a full packing plan, read what fits in a 10x25 storage unit.

When Does a 3-Bedroom Need a 14x20 or 15x20?

Step up to a 14x20 ($145 a month) or 15x20 ($155 a month) when your 3-bedroom comes with a full garage, a big sectional, a piano, or more than about 75 boxes. These units are wider, so you can stack furniture in two rows instead of one long line.

Feature 10x25 14x20 15x20
Floor space 250 sq ft 280 sq ft 300 sq ft
Ceiling height 9 ft 10 or 11.5 ft 10 ft
Door width 8 ft 7 ft 11 in 11.5 ft
Door height 7 ft 10 in 8 ft 8 ft
Monthly rate (Nov 2026) $125 $145 $155

The 15x20 has the widest door we offer on an enclosed unit at 11.5 feet, which makes it the easiest to load with a sectional, a dining table, or a large gun safe on a dolly. The 14x20 comes in a version with an 11.5-foot ceiling, which helps if you stack boxes high.

For a 3-bedroom with a basement or a packed garage, our 20x26 ($210 a month) is described on the Rent page as fitting "the contents of a four-bedroom house with some major appliances" and holding "the contents of about a 40 ft. moving van." Our 20x25 ($200) was on a waiting list when we checked.

How Do You Estimate Your 3-Bedroom Room by Room?

Walk through the house and count big items first, since furniture fills a unit faster than boxes. Here is a typical 3-bedroom checklist.

Primary bedroom

  • Queen or king bed, frame, and headboard (stand mattresses on end)
  • Dresser, two nightstands, a chest of drawers
  • 8 to 12 boxes of clothes, shoes, and linens

Two more bedrooms

  • Two twin or full beds, or one bed and a home office desk
  • Two small dressers, a bookshelf, toy bins
  • 10 to 15 boxes combined

Living room

  • Sofa or sectional, recliner, coffee table, end tables
  • TV in its box or wrapped in a moving blanket, TV stand
  • 5 to 10 boxes of books, decor, and electronics

Kitchen and dining

  • Dining table and four to six chairs
  • Refrigerator, washer, and dryer, if they go with you
  • 10 to 15 boxes of dishes, pots, and pantry items (non-perishable only)

Garage and yard

  • Lawn mower (drain the gas first), bikes, tools, shelving
  • Holiday decorations, camping gear, sports equipment
  • 10 to 20 boxes and bins

If your count lands near the top of each range and you are keeping appliances, plan on a 14x20 or 15x20. If you skip appliances and the garage, a 10x25 is usually plenty.

What Are the Door and Ceiling Sizes at AA Personal Storage?

All of our units are drive-up, ground-level units with roll-up doors, and the facility is paved with asphalt up to every unit, so you can back a moving truck right to the door. None of our enclosed units have inside lighting, so plan daylight moves or bring a battery lantern.

Unit Door (width x height) Ceiling Rate
10x15 (9 ft) 8.7 ft x 8 ft 9 ft $75
10x15 (10 ft) 7 ft 10 in x 8 ft 10 ft $75
10x25 8 ft x 7 ft 10 in 9 ft $125
14x20 7 ft 11 in x 8 ft 10 or 11.5 ft $145
15x20 11.5 ft x 8 ft 10 ft $155
20x26 9 ft 11 in x 8 ft 12 ft $210

Measure your largest piece, usually a sectional, a refrigerator, or a tall armoire, before you choose. Anything under 7 feet 10 inches tall fits through every door on this list.

How Do You Pack a 3-Bedroom Into a Storage Unit?

Load the heaviest and least-needed items first, at the back, and keep a walkway so you can reach boxes later. A good plan for a 10x25 or larger:

  1. Back wall: refrigerator, washer, dryer, and mattresses standing on end.
  2. Sides: dressers and bookshelves with boxes stacked on and in them. Use dresser drawers for linens.
  3. Middle: sofa on end, tables with legs removed, chairs stacked seat to seat.
  4. Front: boxes you will need soon, labeled on two sides, plus tools and seasonal gear.

Use same-size boxes so stacks stay stable, keep heavy boxes under 50 pounds, and put pallets or plastic sheeting under anything that could pick up moisture from a concrete floor. Prop refrigerator and washer doors slightly open to prevent odors. Our guide on how to pack your storage unit for easy use has more tips.

Many families moving from Cedar City store with us, about 20 miles north on I-15. Our Parowan vs. Cedar City storage cost guide compares prices.

What Should You Not Store From a 3-Bedroom?

Our FAQ lists what tenants may not store. When clearing out a whole house, the items people most often forget are:

  • Gasoline, propane tanks, paint thinner, and other flammable or hazardous materials
  • Fireworks, explosives, and ammunition
  • Perishable food and unsealed pet food
  • Plants and anything wet, moldy, or leaking
  • Tires, unless they are on a vehicle in outdoor parking

Drain gas from mowers and small engines, and empty the fridge and freezer completely before they go in the unit.

If You Are Downsizing, Should You Size Down Too?

Yes, often. If you are moving from a 3-bedroom house into a 2-bedroom apartment, you only need to store what won't fit in the new place. Many people in that situation do fine with a 10x15. Compare with our storage unit size for a 2-bedroom guide, and if you are storing a single room's worth, see storage unit size for a 1-bedroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size storage unit do I need for a 3-bedroom house?

Most 3-bedroom houses fit in a 10x25 storage unit, which has 250 square feet of floor space. A lightly furnished 3-bedroom can fit in a 10x15, and a full house with a garage and appliances usually needs a 14x20 or 15x20. At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, these run $75 to $155 a month.

Will a 3-bedroom fit in a 10x20 storage unit?

AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah does not rent a 10x20. Our closest sizes are the 10x15 at $75 a month and the 10x25 at $125 a month. For an average 3-bedroom with appliances, the 10x25 gives you room for a walkway so you can still reach your boxes.

How much does it cost to store a 3-bedroom house in Parowan, Utah?

At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, storing a 3-bedroom house usually costs $125 a month for a 10x25, or $145 to $155 a month for a 14x20 or 15x20, as listed in November 2026. A lightly furnished home may fit in a 10x15 for $75 a month. Rentals are month to month.

How many boxes are in a 3-bedroom house?

A typical 3-bedroom house packs into roughly 50 to 90 moving boxes, plus furniture and appliances. That is a general estimate, since it depends on how much you own. If you have more than about 75 boxes and keep your appliances, plan on a 14x20 or 15x20 instead of a 10x25.

Can I store appliances from a 3-bedroom in a storage unit?

Yes. Clean and fully dry refrigerators, washers, and dryers first, and prop the doors slightly open to prevent mildew and odors. Appliances use floor space you can't stack on, so a 3-bedroom with appliances usually needs a 10x25 or larger at AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah.

Can I get to my storage unit any time?

Yes. AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the property is monitored by video cameras, and it is well-lit at night. Every unit is drive-up and ground level, with paved access, so you can load a moving truck right at the door.
