What Fits in a 10x15 Storage Unit

The Short Answer

A 10x15 storage unit is 150 square feet and holds the contents of about three bedrooms, including big pieces like a sofa, a piano, a dining table, and a large-screen TV, plus boxes. At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, a 10x15 rents for $75 a month (as listed in October 2026), with a 9-foot or 10-foot ceiling and a drive-up roll-up door.

The 10x15 is the size people pick when a 10x10 is too tight but a 10x25 feels like overkill. It's big enough for a two- or three-bedroom move, a full garage cleanout, or a house you're staging to sell. This guide walks through the real dimensions of our 10x15 units, what fits inside, what doesn't, and how to pack one so you can still reach your things. If you're still comparing every size we offer, start with our full storage unit size guide.

How Big Is a 10x15 Storage Unit?

A 10x15 is 10 feet wide and 15 feet deep, for 150 square feet of floor space. At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, we rent two versions at the same $75 monthly rate. One has a 9-foot ceiling and the other has a 10-foot ceiling.

What does a 10x15 look like?

These everyday comparisons are approximate, but they help you picture the space:

  • A large bedroom. Many primary bedrooms are somewhere around 12x14, so a 10x15 is close to that footprint.
  • A little over half a one-car garage. A typical single garage is roughly 12x20, so a 10x15 gives you a bit more than half of that floor area, with a taller ceiling than many garages.
  • A mid-size moving truck. As a rough rule of thumb, a full 10x15 holds about what a 15-foot rental truck carries, which is the truck most people rent for a two- or three-bedroom move.

Which ceiling height should you pick?

Both versions cost the same, so pick based on what you're storing. The 10-foot ceiling gives you about 150 extra cubic feet, which is roughly six or seven more stacked rows of medium boxes. That's useful if most of your load is boxes and bins. The 9-foot version has the wider door (8.7 feet), which makes it a little easier to carry in a sectional, a wide dresser, or a table with fixed legs. What Fits in a 10x15 Storage Unit?

Our Rent page says a 10x15 "fits the contents of three full bedrooms and larger items such as a piano, couches, tables, or large-screen TVs, plus several medium to large-sized boxes." Here's what that looks like in real life.

A two- or three-bedroom home

A typical load from a two- or three-bedroom house or apartment might include:

  • Two or three beds, with mattresses and box springs standing on edge
  • Two or three dressers and a few nightstands
  • A sofa and a loveseat, or a sectional
  • A coffee table, end tables, and lamps
  • A dining table with four to six chairs
  • A large-screen TV and TV stand
  • A washer and dryer, or a refrigerator
  • A bookshelf or two
  • 40 to 70 medium boxes, depending on how much furniture you bring

A full three-bedroom home with heavy furniture and appliances can push a 10x15 to its limit. If that's you, compare it with our 10x25 before you rent.

A piano and other bulky pieces

The 10x15 is the smallest unit on our Rent page that lists a piano. An upright piano is usually about 5 feet wide and 2 feet deep, and it rolls in through either door on a piano dolly. Other bulky items that fit well:

  • Sectional sofas (the 8.7-foot door on the 9-foot version gives the most room)
  • Large-screen TVs, ideally in their boxes or wrapped and standing upright
  • Dining tables with leaves removed
  • Armoires, china hutches, and tall bookcases (both ceilings leave plenty of headroom)

A full garage or shop cleanout

A 10x15 is also a good size for everything that lives in the garage:

  • Tool chests, workbenches, and shelving units
  • Lawn mowers, snow blowers, and yard tools (drain the fuel first, since gasoline isn't allowed)
  • Bikes, kayaks, and paddleboards
  • Camping gear, coolers, and tents
  • Holiday decorations in labeled bins
  • Hunting and fishing gear in the off-season

What Won't Fit (or Isn't Allowed) in a 10x15?

A 10x15 is roomy, but it has limits. These are the most common surprises:

  • Cars, trucks, ATVs, and snowmobiles. Vehicles aren't allowed in enclosed units at AA Personal Storage. Park them in our outdoor Boat/RV/Trailer spaces instead. A 10x30 space is $30 a month (October 2026), and all outdoor parking is uncovered.
  • A large four-bedroom house. That usually needs a 10x25 ($125 a month) or larger.
  • Hazardous and banned items. No gasoline, propane tanks, paint thinner, fireworks, chemicals, ammunition, perishable food, plants, animals, or wet or moldy items. Tires are only allowed on a vehicle in outdoor parking. See the full list in our storage FAQ.

How Much Is a 10x15 Storage Unit in Parowan?

A 10x15 at AA Personal Storage rents for $75 a month, or $900 a year, as listed in October 2026. That's $0.50 per square foot, the same rate per square foot as our 10x25 and lower than our smaller units.

Here's how it compares with the sizes around it:

Unit Floor space Monthly rate (Oct 2026) Cost per sq ft Holds about
10x10 100 sq ft $65 $0.65 A family room or two bedrooms
10x15 150 sq ft $75 $0.50 Three bedrooms plus large items
10x25 250 sq ft $125 $0.50 A multi-bedroom house with appliances

The jump from a 10x10 to a 10x15 is only $10 a month for 50% more floor space. If your 10x10 list is already "pretty full," the 10x15 is usually the better buy, since it also gives you a walkway to reach things. Our full 10x10 guide shows what the smaller unit holds, and our 5x10 vs 10x10 comparison covers the smallest sizes.

A few other costs to know about:

  • Reservation fee: $50 holds a unit for 25 days and is credited toward your move-in charges. It's forfeited if you don't move in.
  • Lock: most units need your own disc lock. A few come with a lock and key on the floor.
  • Tenant Protection: optional Tenant Protection plans cover $2,000 to $15,000. Using a disc or cylinder lock avoids the $200 deductible.
  • Military discount: 10% off, with no proof required.

How Do You Pack a 10x15 So Everything Fits?

Plan the layout before moving day, because 150 square feet fills faster than you'd think. This layout works for most household moves:

  1. Back wall first: the heavy, rarely used things. Put appliances, dressers, and stacked boxes of items you won't need for months against the back wall.
  2. Mattresses on edge along one side wall. Wrap them in mattress bags and stand them up so they take about 1 foot of width instead of 5.
  3. Sofas on end, if needed. Stand a sofa on its arm, wrapped, to save floor space. Leave cushions on top of the box stacks.
  4. Stack high. With a 9- or 10-foot ceiling, you can stack boxes five or six high. Keep heavy boxes on the bottom and use same-size boxes so stacks don't lean.
  5. Leave a center aisle. A 2-foot walkway down the middle lets you reach the back without unloading everything.
  6. Front of the unit: things you'll need soon. Seasonal clothes, tools, and anything you'll grab during the rental go near the door.
  7. Label two sides of every box so you can read the labels from the aisle.

Is a 10x15 the Right Size for You?

The 10x15 is the right size for most two- and three-bedroom moves and for full garage cleanouts. Use this quick check:

A 10x15 is a good fit if:

  • You're moving out of a two- or three-bedroom home and storing furniture plus boxes
  • You have a piano, sectional, or other big pieces on the list
  • You're staging a home to sell and need to clear several rooms at once
  • A 10x10 would hold your things, but only if you packed it wall to wall with no walkway

Choose a 10x10 instead if you're storing a one-bedroom apartment or mostly boxes. It's $65 a month (October 2026).

Size up to a 10x25 if you're storing a four-bedroom house, several appliances, or a full house plus garage. It's $125 a month (October 2026). For the very largest loads, we also rent 14x20, 15x20, and 20x26 units.

Not sure? Because we rent month to month, you can move to a different size later if one is open.
