10x10 vs 10x15 Storage Unit

A 10x15 storage unit gives you 50% more floor space than a 10x10 for just $10 more a month. At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, a 10x10 (100 square feet) rents for $65 a month and holds about two bedrooms or a one-bedroom apartment, while a 10x15 (150 square feet) rents for $75 a month and holds about three bedrooms plus big pieces like a piano or sectional (rates as listed in October 2026).

Choosing between these two sizes is one of the most common questions we hear in Parowan. This guide puts the two side by side with real dimensions, door sizes, and prices from our Rent page, so you can pick the right one the first time. To see every unit we offer, check our full storage unit size guide.

What Is the Difference Between a 10x10 and a 10x15 Storage Unit?

The difference is 5 feet of depth: a 10x10 is 10 feet wide and 10 feet deep (100 square feet), and a 10x15 is 10 feet wide and 15 feet deep (150 square feet). Both are the same width, so the 10x15 is simply a longer version of the 10x10.

Here is how the two compare at AA Personal Storage, using the specs on our Rent page in October 2026:

Best for A one-bedroom apartment, a remodel, a dorm plus extras A two- or three-bedroom move, a garage cleanout, home staging Tall loads and lots of boxes

Volume figures are simple length x width x ceiling math, so treat them as approximate. All units are drive-up and ground level, and the property is paved to every unit.

How big is each one in real life?

A 10x10 is about the size of a small bedroom, or a little less than half of a typical one-car garage. A 10x15 is closer to a large bedroom, or a bit more than half of a one-car garage (both approximate).

How Much More Does a 10x15 Cost Than a 10x10?

At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, a 10x15 costs $10 more per month than a 10x10: $75 versus $65 (as listed in October 2026). Over a year, that's $900 versus $780, a difference of $120.

The 10x15 is actually the better value per square foot. You pay about 50 cents per square foot in a 10x15 and about 65 cents in a 10x10.

Rental length 10x10 at $65/mo 10x15 at $75/mo Difference
1 month $65 $75 $10
3 months $195 $225 $30
6 months $390 $450 $60
12 months $780 $900 $120

These totals use the monthly rates on our Rent page in October 2026 and don't include optional tenant protection or a lock. Rentals are month to month, so you only pay for the months you use.

What other costs should you plan for?

The other costs are the same for both sizes:

  • Reservation deposit: $50 holds a unit for 25 days and is credited back on your first rental invoice. If you don't move in within 25 days, it's forfeited.
  • Lock: Bring your own disc lock unless your unit already has one.
  • Tenant protection: Optional plans cover your stored belongings. See our tenant protection page for coverage levels.
  • Military discount: We offer a 10% military discount, and no proof is required.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover, and you can pay your bill online.

What Fits in a 10x10 vs. a 10x15?

A 10x10 fits about two bedrooms of furniture or a lightly furnished one-bedroom apartment, while a 10x15 fits about three bedrooms, including large items like a piano, a sectional, or a dining set.

A 10x10 typically holds: a queen or king bed, a dresser and nightstands, a sofa and chair, a TV and stand, a small table, and roughly 15 to 25 medium boxes with a narrow aisle. See the full list in our guide to what fits in a 10x10 storage unit.

A 10x15 typically holds: two or three bedroom sets, a sofa or sectional, a dining table and chairs, a washer and dryer or a refrigerator, a piano, and a good stack of boxes. See the full list in our guide to what fits in a 10x15 storage unit.

Box counts and room counts are estimates. How much you own, and how tightly you pack, matter more than the number of bedrooms.

Where does the extra 5 feet make the biggest difference?

The extra depth matters most for appliances, long furniture, and access. Here are the items that most often push people from a 10x10 to a 10x15:

Item or need 10x10 10x15
Refrigerator, washer, and dryer together Takes a big share of the floor Fits with room for furniture
Sectional sofa plus a full bedroom set Usually too tight together Fits
Upright piano Possible, but it crowds everything else Listed on our Rent page as a 10x15 item
Dining table plus chairs Fits if little else is going in Fits alongside a household
A walkway to reach the back Hard with a full load Easier to leave an aisle
Garage tools, bikes, and yard gear on top of furniture Often too much Usually fits

Do the doors make a difference?

Both sizes have wide roll-up doors, so getting furniture in is easy either way. The 10x10 door is 8.5 feet wide and 7 feet 10 inches tall. The 10x15 doors are 8.7 feet or 7 feet 10 inches wide, and 8.0 feet tall. Either one lets you roll a dolly straight in, which is a big step up from the 3.7-foot door on our 5x10 units.

Which Size Do You Need for Your Home?

Choose a 10x10 for a one-bedroom apartment or two rooms of furniture, and a 10x15 for a two- or three-bedroom home or anything with appliances. Use this table as a starting point:

What you're storing Recommended size Rate (October 2026)
A dorm room, a studio, or one bedroom set 5x10 or 10x10 $40 or $65/mo
A one-bedroom apartment with a couch 10x10 $65/mo
Two bedrooms or a family room during a remodel 10x10 $65/mo
A two-bedroom apartment with appliances 10x15 $75/mo
A three-bedroom home, or furniture plus a piano 10x15 $75/mo
A full house with appliances and garage contents 10x25 $125/mo

If you're storing a one-bedroom, our storage unit size guide for a 1-bedroom walks through it room by room. If your load is smaller, compare the 5x10 vs. 10x10 storage unit, or see what fits in a 5x10 storage unit.

Pick a 10x10 if...

  • You're storing a one-bedroom apartment, a family room, or two bedrooms.
  • You don't have a refrigerator, washer, or dryer going in with the furniture.
  • You plan to pack tightly and won't need to get to the back often.
  • You want the lowest monthly cost for a unit that takes full-size furniture.

Pick a 10x15 if...

  • You're moving out of a two- or three-bedroom home.
  • You have appliances, a piano, a sectional, or a large dining set.
  • You'll be visiting the unit often and want an aisle to reach everything.
  • You're not sure your stuff will fit in a 10x10. For $10 more, the extra room is cheap insurance against a second unit or a second trip.

Is It Better to Size Up or Size Down?

If you're on the fence, size up to the 10x15. It costs only $10 more a month at AA Personal Storage, and running out of room on moving day usually means renting a second unit, which costs more than the bigger unit would have.

A few signs you're between sizes:

  1. Your list includes even one major appliance. Appliances eat floor space fast, and you can't stack on most of them.
  2. You'll need things during storage. Tools, business inventory, and seasonal gear are easier to reach in a 10x15 with an aisle.
  3. You're storing during a home sale or remodel. These timelines tend to stretch, and stuff tends to grow. Our posts on storage during a home renovation and staging your home to sell cover both situations.

Sizing down makes sense when your load is mostly boxes and narrow furniture, because the 9-foot ceiling in a 10x10 gives you a lot of stacking room. Since rentals are month to month, you can also call us at (435) 447-4777 to ask about switching sizes if your needs change.

How Do You Pack Each Size to Fit More?

In either size, pack from the back wall forward, put heavy items low, and use the full ceiling height. The main difference is that a 10x15 has room to leave a walkway, while a full 10x10 usually doesn't.

  1. Measure your biggest pieces. Both doors are wide, but check the height of tall items like armoires against the 7 ft 10 in or 8.0 ft door.
  2. Take furniture apart. Remove table legs and bed frames, and tape the bagged hardware to each piece.
  3. Stand mattresses on edge along a side wall, inside mattress bags.
  4. Load appliances first, against the back wall. Leave fridge and freezer doors slightly open to prevent odors.
  5. Stack uniform boxes in columns. Same-size boxes and plastic bins stack higher and straighter.
  6. In a 10x15, leave an aisle down one side so you can reach the back.
  7. Keep what you'll need near the door, like holiday bins, hunting gear, or skis for Brian Head trips.
  8. Use sealed plastic bins for long stays, since our drive-up units aren't climate controlled.
  9. Bring a light. Our 10x10 and 10x15 units don't have inside lighting, so a headlamp or lantern helps on evening visits. The property itself is lit at night, and you can visit 24/7.

What can't go in either unit?

The same rules apply to every enclosed unit. Our storage FAQ lists items you can't store, including gasoline, propane, paint thinner, fireworks, and other hazardous materials; explosives and ammunition; perishable food and anything that attracts pests; animals and plants; wet or moldy items; and tires unless they're on a vehicle in outdoor parking. Vehicles aren't allowed in enclosed units at all.

If you need to store an RV, boat, trailer, ATV, or snowmobile, use our uncovered outdoor parking instead: a 10x30 space for $30 a month or a 12x40 for $40 a month (October 2026). Our guide to covered vs. uncovered RV storage explains the tradeoffs, and how to winterize your RV covers Parowan's cold winters.

Frequently Asked Questions: 10x10 vs. 10x15 Storage Units

Is a 10x15 storage unit much bigger than a 10x10?

Yes. A 10x15 has 150 square feet of floor space, which is 50% more than the 100 square feet in a 10x10. Both are 10 feet wide, so the 10x15 is 5 feet deeper. At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, the 10x15 also comes with a 9-foot or 10-foot ceiling for extra stacking room.

How much more is a 10x15 than a 10x10 in Parowan?

At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, a 10x15 costs $75 a month and a 10x10 costs $65 a month, as listed in October 2026. That's $10 more per month, or $120 more per year. The 10x15 works out to about 50 cents per square foot, compared with about 65 cents for the 10x10.

How many bedrooms fit in a 10x10 vs. a 10x15?

A 10x10 holds about two bedrooms of furniture or a lightly furnished one-bedroom apartment. A 10x15 holds about three bedrooms, plus larger items like a piano, couches, tables, or a large-screen TV. These are estimates, since furniture sizes vary. Appliances often push a two-bedroom load into a 10x15.

Can a couch fit in a 10x10 storage unit?

Yes. At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, the 10x10 has a roll-up door 8.5 feet wide and 7 feet 10 inches tall, so a standard sofa rolls straight in. A large sectional plus a full bedroom set and appliances is usually too much for a 10x10, so choose a 10x15 for that load.

Should I get a 10x10 or a 10x15 for a move?

Get a 10x10 for a one-bedroom apartment or two rooms of furniture, and a 10x15 for a two- or three-bedroom home or any load with appliances. If you're unsure, the 10x15 is usually safer, because it costs only $10 more a month at AA Personal Storage and avoids renting a second unit.

Can I switch from a 10x10 to a 10x15 later?

Rentals at AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah are month to month, so there's no long-term contract keeping you in one size. If you need more or less room, call (435) 447-4777 to ask about moving to a different unit. Availability changes, so check the Rent page for open 10x10 and 10x15 units.
