Storage Unit Size for a 2-Bedroom

Most 2-bedroom homes fit in a 10x15 storage unit, a lightly furnished 2-bedroom apartment can fit in a 10x10, and a 2-bedroom house with a garage, appliances, or a big sectional usually needs a 10x25. At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, a 10x10 rents for $65 a month, a 10x15 for $75, and a 10x25 for $125 (as listed in October 2026), all month to month with drive-up access.

Choosing the right storage unit size for a 2 bedroom apartment or house is the difference between one easy moving day and a second trip to rent another unit. This guide walks room by room through a typical 2-bedroom, gives a quick size chart for light, average, and full homes, and explains the door and ceiling measurements that matter at our Parowan facility. If you want to see every size we offer first, start with our full storage unit size guide.

What Size Storage Unit Do I Need for a 2-Bedroom?

For most people, a 10x15 is the right storage unit size for a 2-bedroom. It has 150 square feet of floor space and about 1,350 to 1,500 cubic feet of room, which covers two bedroom sets, a living room, a dining set, and boxes.

How much you own matters more than the number of bedrooms. Use this chart as a starting point, then adjust using the checklist below. Rates are from our Rent page in October 2026.

Your 2-bedroom Suggested size Floor space Monthly rate at AAPS
Light apartment: minimal furniture, no appliances 10x10 100 sq ft $65
Average apartment or small house: two bedroom sets, sofa, table, 30 to 50 boxes 10x15 150 sq ft $75
Full house: appliances, sectional, garage and yard items 10x25 250 sq ft $125
Full house plus a home office, workshop, or lots of extras 14x20 or 15x20 280 to 300 sq ft $145 to $155

These are estimates, since furniture sizes vary a lot. A queen bed and a king bed take very different amounts of space, and so do a loveseat and a sectional.

Is a 10x10 Big Enough for a 2-Bedroom Apartment?

Sometimes. Our Rent page describes the 10x10 as fitting "an entire family room or two full bedrooms," so it works for a lightly furnished 2-bedroom apartment with no appliances and a modest number of boxes.

A 10x10 at AA Personal Storage is 10 feet wide, 10 feet deep, and has a 9-foot ceiling. Its roll-up door is 8.5 feet wide and 7 feet 10 inches tall, so a sofa or mattress goes straight in. It is a good fit if:

  • Your second bedroom is a small office or guest room with a desk and a twin or full bed.
  • You are leaving the couch, kitchen table, or appliances behind.
  • You can stack boxes up near the ceiling and pack tight.

If your 2-bedroom includes a sectional, a dining set for six, a washer and dryer, or more than about 40 boxes, plan on a 10x15 instead. For a detailed packing list, see what fits in a 10x10 storage unit. Note that the 10x10 listing showed "Only 1 left!" when we checked the Rent page in late October 2026, so availability can change quickly.

Why Is a 10x15 the Most Common Choice for a 2-Bedroom?

A 10x15 gives you 50% more floor space than a 10x10 for $10 more a month, which is usually enough room for a full 2-bedroom without stacking furniture dangerously high. Our Rent page says a 10x15 fits "the contents of three full bedrooms," so a 2-bedroom leaves you some breathing room.

We have two versions of the 10x15 in Parowan, both $75 a month as listed in October 2026:

Feature 10x15 (9 ft ceiling) 10x15 (10 ft ceiling)
Floor space 150 sq ft 150 sq ft
Approximate volume About 1,350 cu ft About 1,500 cu ft
Door type Roll-up Roll-up
Door width 8.7 ft 7 ft 10 in
Door height 8.0 ft 8.0 ft
Monthly rate $75 $75

The extra foot of ceiling height in the 10-foot version adds about 150 cubic feet, roughly the space of 25 to 30 medium moving boxes stacked up top. The wider door on the 9-foot version makes it a little easier to carry a long sofa or a dresser straight in. For a full list of what fits, read what fits in a 10x15 storage unit, or compare the two sizes side by side in 10x10 vs 10x15 storage unit.

When Does a 2-Bedroom House Need a 10x25?

A 2-bedroom house often needs a 10x25 when you are storing appliances, a garage full of tools, patio furniture, or outdoor gear on top of the rooms inside. Our 10x25 is 250 square feet with a 9-foot ceiling and an 8-foot-wide roll-up door, and it rents for $125 a month (October 2026).

Houses tend to hold more than apartments of the same bedroom count. Common things that push a 2-bedroom load past a 10x15:

  • A refrigerator, washer, and dryer. Each takes about the floor space of a small dresser, and you shouldn't stack on top of them.
  • A garage: lawn mower, snow blower, tool chests, ladders, and bikes.
  • Patio and yard items: grill, patio set, garden tools, and holiday decorations.
  • Hobby gear common in Iron County, like hunting, camping, and ski equipment.

The Rent page describes the 10x25 as fitting "the contents of a multi-bedroom house, including several oversized items like a couch, a refrigerator, a washer/dryer and a dining room set." When we checked in late October 2026, it showed "Only 1 left!", so reserve early if you need one.

How Do You Estimate Your 2-Bedroom Room by Room?

Walk through each room and count the big pieces first, then the boxes. The furniture decides the size; boxes fill the gaps and the height.

Bedroom 1 (primary bedroom)

  • Queen or king bed: mattress, box spring, and frame
  • Dresser and nightstands
  • TV and stand
  • Closet: about 8 to 15 boxes, or wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes

Bedroom 2 (guest room, kids' room, or office)

  • Twin, full, or queen bed, or a desk and office chair
  • Dresser or bookshelf
  • Toys, books, or files: about 5 to 10 boxes

Living room

  • Sofa or sectional, plus a chair or recliner
  • Coffee table, end tables, and lamps
  • TV, entertainment center, and bookcases

Kitchen and dining

  • Dining table and 4 to 6 chairs
  • Kitchen items: about 10 to 15 boxes for dishes, pots, and pantry goods (no perishable food)
  • Appliances, if you are storing them

Garage, patio, and storage closets

  • Bikes, tools, sporting gear, holiday decorations, and seasonal clothing

A typical 2-bedroom ends up with around 30 to 60 boxes. If your count lands near the top of that range, or you have more than a couple of appliances, size up.

What Are the Door and Ceiling Sizes at AA Personal Storage?

Every unit at AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, is a drive-up, ground-level unit with pavement to the door, and the doors are tall enough for most furniture. Here are the specs from our Rent page for the sizes that fit a 2-bedroom:

Unit Ceiling Door width Door height Monthly rate
10x10 9 ft 8.5 ft 7 ft 10 in $65
10x15 9 ft 8.7 ft 8.0 ft $75
10x15 10 ft 7 ft 10 in 8.0 ft $75
10x25 9 ft 8.0 ft 7 ft 10 in $125
14x20 10 or 11.5 ft 7 ft 11 in 8.0 ft $145

Because you can back a truck or trailer right up to the door, you can unload a 2-bedroom much faster than at an indoor facility with hallways and elevators. None of these units has inside lighting, so if you move in late, bring a headlamp or a battery lantern. The facility is well-lit at night, and you have access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How Do You Pack a 2-Bedroom Into a Storage Unit?

Load the heaviest, largest items first along the back wall, then stack boxes from heaviest at the bottom to lightest at the top, and leave a narrow aisle so you can reach things later. A good plan lets a 2-bedroom fit in a smaller unit than you might expect.

  1. Disassemble what you can. Remove bed frames, table legs, and mirror mounts. Keep screws in labeled bags taped to the furniture.
  2. Stand mattresses and sofas on end along a side wall, wrapped in mattress bags or plastic covers.
  3. Use uniform boxes. Same-size boxes stack tighter and safer than a mix of bags and bins.
  4. Fill furniture. Put small boxes inside dresser drawers and on shelves.
  5. Leave an aisle if you will need to get to items during your rental.
  6. Label every box on two sides with the room and contents.

What Should You Not Store From a 2-Bedroom?

Leave out anything flammable, perishable, alive, or wet. Our FAQ lists items tenants may not store, including gasoline, propane tanks, paint thinner, fireworks, chemicals, explosives and ammunition, perishable food or unsealed pet food, plants, and wet or moldy items.

Our units are standard drive-up units, not climate controlled. Parowan winters are cold and summers are hot, so keep irreplaceable photos, important documents, and fragile electronics with you, and pack the rest in sealed plastic bins or sturdy boxes off the bare floor. Vehicles can't go in enclosed units; cars, RVs, boats, and trailers go in our uncovered outdoor RV, boat, and trailer parking, from $30 a month.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size storage unit do I need for a 2-bedroom apartment?

Most 2-bedroom apartments fit in a 10x15 storage unit, which has 150 square feet of floor space. A lightly furnished apartment with no appliances can fit in a 10x10. At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, a 10x15 rents for $75 a month and a 10x10 for $65, as listed in October 2026.

Will a 2-bedroom house fit in a 10x15 storage unit?

Usually, if you are storing furniture and boxes only. A 2-bedroom house with a refrigerator, washer and dryer, garage tools, or patio furniture often needs a 10x25 instead. At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, the 10x25 is 250 square feet and rents for $125 a month, as listed in October 2026.

Is a 10x10 storage unit big enough for 2 bedrooms?

It can be. The Rent page at AA Personal Storage describes the 10x10 as holding an entire family room or two full bedrooms. That works for two bedroom sets and boxes, but not usually a whole apartment with a living room, dining set, and appliances. For a full 2-bedroom, a 10x15 is safer.

How many boxes are in a 2-bedroom move?

A typical 2-bedroom apartment or house packs into about 30 to 60 moving boxes, plus furniture. Kitchens and closets create the most boxes. If you have more than about 40 boxes plus a sofa, two beds, and a dining set, plan on a 10x15 storage unit rather than a 10x10.

How much does it cost to store a 2-bedroom in Parowan, Utah?

At AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah, storing a 2-bedroom costs about $65 to $125 a month: $65 for a 10x10, $75 for a 10x15, and $125 for a 10x25, as listed in October 2026. Rentals are month to month, and a 10% military discount is available with no proof required.

Can I store appliances from a 2-bedroom in a storage unit?

Yes. Clean and fully dry refrigerators, washers, and dryers before storing them, and prop the doors slightly open to prevent mildew and odors. Appliances take up floor space you can't stack on, so a 2-bedroom with appliances often needs a 10x15 or 10x25 at AA Personal Storage in Parowan, Utah.
