What Fits in a 10x10 Storage Unit

The Short Answer

A 10x10 storage unit at AA Personal Storage is 100 square feet with a 9-foot ceiling and an 8.5-foot-wide roll-up door. It holds the contents of a family room or two full bedrooms, or most of a one-bedroom apartment, plus a stack of boxes. It rents for $65 a month (as listed in October 2026), month to month, with 24/7 drive-up access in Parowan, Utah.

The 10x10 is the size people ask about most. It's big enough for real furniture and small enough to stay affordable. This guide covers exactly what fits inside one, how to pack it, and when a smaller or bigger unit makes more sense. If you're still comparing sizes, start with our full storage unit size guide, which covers every unit we offer.

How Big Is a 10x10 Storage Unit?

Here are the real numbers for the 10x10 units at our Parowan facility, straight from our Rent page:

Detail 10x10 at AA Personal Storage
Floor space 10 ft x 10 ft (100 square feet)
Ceiling height 9 feet
Total volume About 900 cubic feet
Door type Roll-up
Door opening 8.5 feet wide, 7 feet 10 inches tall
Access Ground level, drive-up, paved right to the door
Monthly rate $65 (as listed in October 2026)

To picture it, think of an empty small bedroom, or a little less than half of a one-car garage (both approximate). The 9-foot ceiling gives you more stacking height than most rooms, and that vertical space is where a 10x10 earns its keep.

The door matters just as much as the floor. An 8.5-foot-wide opening means a full-size couch, a queen bed frame, or a dining table can slide straight in without tipping, twisting, or taking the legs off. That's a big upgrade from our 5x10 and 5x12.5 units, which have doors about 3.7 feet wide.

What Fits in a 10x10 Storage Unit?

Our Rent page describes the 10x10 as fitting "the contents of an entire family room or two full bedrooms, including several small to medium-sized boxes." Here's what that looks like in real furniture. Every household packs differently, so treat these as typical loads, not guarantees.

A one-bedroom apartment

A carefully packed 10x10 holds most one-bedroom apartments. A typical load:

  • Queen or full bed (mattress, box spring, and frame broken down)
  • Dresser and one or two nightstands
  • Sofa or loveseat
  • Coffee table and end table
  • TV and TV stand
  • Small dining table with two to four chairs
  • Bookshelf or desk
  • Roughly 15 to 25 medium boxes for kitchen items, clothes, and books

If your one-bedroom has a big sectional, a full set of appliances, or a garage's worth of tools, plan for the next size up.

Two bedrooms of furniture

If you're clearing out two bedrooms for a remodel, guests, or a move, a 10x10 typically holds:

  • Two beds (a queen and a twin, or two fulls), frames broken down
  • Two dressers
  • Two nightstands
  • A desk and chair
  • Lamps, mirrors, and wall art (wrapped)
  • 10 to 20 boxes of clothing and personal items

A family room or living room

A full-size sofa plus a loveseat or recliner, a coffee table and end tables, a TV stand and TV, bookshelves, rolled rugs stood on end, and boxes of books, games, and decor.

Garage and seasonal gear

A 10x10 also works well as an overflow garage for gear you use in different seasons:

  • Bikes (hung or stood along one wall)
  • Camping gear, coolers, and tents
  • Ski and snowboard gear for trips up to Brian Head
  • Hunting gear (unloaded, with no ammunition, which isn't allowed in units)
  • Holiday decorations in labeled bins
  • Lawn equipment, with gas tanks emptied first

One firm rule: no vehicles inside enclosed units, and that includes motorcycles, ATVs, and snowmobiles. Those go in our outdoor parking spaces, which are uncovered and start at $30 a month for a 10x30 space (as listed in October 2026).

A small business or home office

Contractors, online sellers, and small offices around Iron County use 10x10 units for inventory on shelving, archived files, spare office furniture, event supplies, and tools between jobs. The wide door makes it easy to back a truck up and unload. See our post on using a storage unit for your business for more ideas.

What Probably Won't Fit (or Isn't Allowed)

Knowing the limits saves you a second trip and a second rental.

Probably won't fit in a 10x10:

  • A full two- or three-bedroom house with appliances. A refrigerator, washer, and dryer together take up a big share of the floor. For a whole house, look at a 10x15 or larger.
  • A large sectional plus a full bedroom set plus a dining set. Any one of those is fine; all three together usually isn't.
  • Items longer than about 10 feet, unless you can stand them on end.

Not allowed in any unit: flammable or hazardous materials (gasoline, propane, paint thinner, fireworks, chemicals), explosives and ammunition, perishable food or unsealed pet food, animals and plants, wet or moldy items, loose tires, and vehicles. The full list is in our storage FAQ.

How to Pack a 10x10 So Everything Fits

The difference between "it all fit" and "we need a second unit" is usually packing, not size. A few habits make a 10x10 hold a lot more.

  1. Load the big, heavy pieces first, against the back wall. Dressers, appliances, and headboards go in first. They create a solid base to stack against.
  2. Use the full 9 feet. Stack sturdy, same-size boxes in columns with the heaviest on the bottom. Put dresser drawers to work by filling them with linens or clothes.
  3. Stand sofas on end if you can. A couch standing upright (wrapped in a blanket or plastic) uses a fraction of the floor space it takes lying flat. Check the frame first; not every couch handles it well.
  4. Break down bed frames and table legs. Tape hardware in a labeled bag to the piece it belongs to.
  5. Leave a narrow aisle. Even a 2-foot path down the middle or along one side lets you reach things without unloading half the unit.
  6. Put what you'll need most near the door. Holiday bins, tools, and seasonal clothes go up front.
  7. Pack for temperature swings. Parowan gets real winters and hot summer afternoons, and our units are standard drive-up units, not climate-controlled. Use plastic bins for paper and fabrics, keep electronics in their original boxes or padded bins, and keep mattresses off the bare floor and covered.

Is a 10x10 the Right Size for You?

Here's a quick way to decide between a 10x10 and its neighbors on our Rent page. Rates are as listed in October 2026.

If you're storing... Best fit Monthly rate
Boxes, a few small pieces, or a dorm room 5x10 $40
A small bedroom plus extra boxes or a bike 5x12.5 $50
A one-bedroom apartment, two bedrooms, or a family room 10x10 $65
Mostly boxes, files, and shelving that fit through a regular doorway 10x14 walk-in (waiting list) $65
Three bedrooms plus larger items like a piano or big-screen TV 10x15 $75
A multi-bedroom house with appliances 10x25 $125

Pick a 5x10 or 5x12.5 if you're mostly storing boxes and a few pieces that fit through a door about 3.7 feet wide.

Pick a 10x10 if you have real furniture, like a couch, beds, or a dining table, but not a whole house.

Pick a 10x15 if you're adding appliances or a third bedroom. It's only $10 more a month for 50 more square feet.

If you're torn during a move, go one size up so you have room to work. For long-term storage you can pack tight, so the smaller size usually does the job.

Common Reasons People Rent a 10x10 in Parowan

  • Between homes. A house in Parowan closes before the new place in Cedar City is ready, or the other way around. A 10x10 holds the essentials of a smaller household for a few weeks or months.
  • Remodels. Clearing two rooms so the flooring or paint crew can work. Our post on storage during a home renovation covers how to plan it.
  • Selling a house. Pulling out extra furniture makes rooms look bigger in photos and showings. See our tips for staging your home to sell.
  • Brian Head cabin owners. Swapping out furniture, linens, and rental supplies without hauling everything down the mountain to Cedar City. We're about 12.7 miles from Brian Head on UT-143.
  • Students and seasonal workers. Southern Utah University students and seasonal workers storing an apartment's worth of stuff over the summer.

Renting a 10x10 at AA Personal Storage

  • Rent online in minutes. You can rent a 10x10 in Parowan right from our website, no meeting required. Once the unit is rented, you'll get an email or text with move-in instructions.
  • Availability is limited. When we checked in October 2026, the Rent page showed only one 10x10 open. If you aren't ready to move in yet, you can reserve a unit for a $50 reservation fee that's credited to your move-in charges. It holds the unit for 25 days, and the fee is non-refundable if you don't move in within that window.
  • 24/7/365 access. Load up after work, before sunrise, or on a Sunday. There are no office hours to plan around.
  • Drive-up and ground level. Every unit is on the ground floor, and the facility is paved with asphalt right up to every unit door.

  • Bring a lock. Most units need your own disc lock (a few come with a lock and key on the floor of the unit). A disc or cylinder lock also helps you avoid the $200 deductible on our Tenant Protection plans.

Frequently Asked Questions About 10x10 Storage Units

How much is a 10x10 storage unit in Parowan?

At AA Personal Storage, a 10x10 storage unit rents for $65 a month, as listed on our Rent page in October 2026. Rentals are month to month with no long-term contract. Check the Rent page for live pricing and availability, since 10x10 availability is limited.

How many boxes fit in a 10x10 storage unit?

It depends on box size and what else you're storing. With no furniture, a 10x10 with a 9-foot ceiling holds a large number of medium boxes stacked in columns. With a typical one-bedroom load of furniture, plan on roughly 15 to 25 medium boxes alongside it, with a narrow aisle left open.

Will a couch fit in a 10x10 storage unit?

Yes. Our 10x10 units have a roll-up door 8.5 feet wide and 7 feet 10 inches tall, so a standard sofa slides straight in. You can lay it flat or stand it on end to save floor space. A large sectional usually fits too, but it will take up a big share of the unit.

Can I fit a two-bedroom apartment in a 10x10?

Often, yes, if it's lightly furnished and packed tightly. A 10x10 holds two full bedrooms of furniture or a family room. If your two-bedroom also includes a full living room, a dining set, and appliances, a 10x15 at $75 a month (October 2026) is usually the safer choice.

Can I store a car or ATV in a 10x10?

No. Vehicles aren't allowed in our enclosed units, no matter the size. Cars, trucks, boats, RVs, trailers, snowmobiles, and ATVs go in our outdoor parking spaces instead. Those spaces are uncovered and come in 10x30 and 12x40 sizes, starting at $30 a month as listed in October 2026.
